Argyle, NY - Lionel R. Sharp passed away peacefully on August 29, 2017, on the 58th anniversary of his marriage to Jeanne S. Johnson.
Lionel was born in Manhattan, New York on September 9, 1927 to Grace (Cohen) and Herman Sharp. When Lionel was three years of age, the family relocated to Albany, New York. A graduate of the Milne School of Albany, Lionel went on to serve in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He continued his education at SUNY Albany where he earned his MA in English then on to Syracuse University to earn a BA in American Literature-American Studies. In 1959, while in Syracuse, Lionel met and married Jeanne S. Johnson.
After 18 years as an English Professor at Cazenovia College, Lionel and his family relocated to Argyle, New York. He retired from Finch Pruyn and Company in 1998 where he was an Administrative Assistant.
In addition to his parents, Lionel was predeceased by his wife Jeanne. He is survived by his children, John Sharp (Donna Decker) and Kathryn Piper (Patrick), grandchildren, Elizabeth Sharp, Daniel, Ryan and Steven Sharp, and his great granddaughter Brooklyn Sharp. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Margie Lee Johnson as well as several cousins.
A private gathering will be held at the convenience of the family.
