Stillwater, NY - Lucielle Anne (Volpe) Canary passed away Monday January 25, 2021 at Albany Medical Center. She was 78.
Born July 26, 1942 in Troy, she was daughter of the late Joseph and Guistina (Irene) DelPrete Topetro. Lucielle was a 1960 graduate of Mechanicville High School. She resided in Stillwater since April 25, 1965 after she married the love of her life, Thomas Dennis Canary, Jr. who predeceased her September 23, 2013. Lucielle assisted her in-laws in their stores 'Snaps' & Tom's Deli, before working at 3-Zip Normanskill, all in Stillwater, part-time while raising their daughter Deanna. She then went onto work at NYS Department of Criminal Justice. Lucielle was always smiling and playing silly tricks on people, like her dad. She had lifelong friendships that started in kindergarten right on through the years and was still making friends and lasting impressions on everyone she met along the way even up until her time in the hospital with all of the staff. She cherished her home that her and Tom built together with help from family and friends when needed. She was a spitfire and life of the party. Her nieces and nephews called her "Crazy Aunt Lu". She loved to entertain on her back deck or in her dining room or basement playing pool with family and friends.
Lucielle is remembered by many from her local softball team she played a bit and then coached. She loved her music and dancing. She loved to play PINK, Cher, Celine Dion, Carole King, Neil Diamond & Bob Seger. She was always first one up to dance to Old Time Rock-n-Roll or Lady In Red with Tom. Once her and Tom retired, they enjoyed some winter months at their place in Florida. After Tom passed, she still would enjoy her road trips down and back with dear friends Rox & Nicole. Lucielle had many different names through the years, Lu, Lulu, Ragu. You could always catch her making silly faces and eating chocolates and drinking Pepsi.
She was a communicant of the former St. Peter's Church (All Saints on the Hudson North), the Stillwater Senior Center and Bocce League.
Lucielle loved spending time with her daughter, grandchildren, great grandsons and many nieces and nephews. She wouldn't hesitate to take grandkids and their friends for a ride with the music playing to go eat or get ice cream at 10 at night.
Lucielle is survived by her daughter Deanna Canary-Mosher; two granddaughters, Deborah Warrington (Eric), Guinevere Gauthier (CJ) and one grandson Robert Stickney; three great grandsons, Timothy and Nathan Bombard and Henry Gauthier; her brother Frank Volpe (Carol); sister Madeline Marinello and sister-n-law Helena (Candy) Caswell (Bob) and adopted family member Kathy Baker Starks and many nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to mention.
A special thank you to her dear friends, Jean Zecca, Annie Reed, Linda DiNallo and Mary Jo Chase for always checking in and driving her to appointments along with her niece Patty Gibson and nephew Danny DeCelle. Also, with her special girls who she adored Tiffany Truelove, Bridget Lowery, & Dawn Cowin Huehn
