MARGARET MARIE BROWN March 22, 1934 – April 7, 2025

Margaret Marie Brown, lifelong resident of Greenfield Center, passed away in the early morning hours on April 7th, just a couple weeks after her 91st birthday. Born on March 22, 1934, to the late Stephen and Nellie Smith of Greenfield, she died just a few acres down the road from where she was born. Margaret is survived by her three children and their spouses: Jeffrey and Elizabeth Brown of Boston, MA; Kenneth and Sharon Brown of Lake Desolation, and Anita and Emily Brown, currently of Greenfield. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother Stephen Smith and his wife Alice; her sister Gloria Pietruccia and her husband Victor; and nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret possessed a quiet but indomitable spirit of determination and a tireless work ethic. Growing up on a hard scrabble farm in the middle of the Great Depression, she had none of the opportunities available to women today. But she managed, along with her husband of 62 years, Armond 'Buck' Brown, to create a comfortable home and life for themselves and their family. That, along with a new Buick every four years, a small pool, a trip to Lake Champlain each summer, and a contingent of extended family and lifelong friends all rounded out their 'American Dream'. They asked for little else. Margaret always appeared impeccably groomed and coiffed and maintained a spotlessly clean and orderly home, all while raising three children whom she loved deeply. In addition to that, she went 3-4 nights a week to work as a waitress at the Wishing Well restaurant in Wilton where she remained a favorite of her customers and her co-workers for over forty-five years. The job meant so much to her that she often referred to these people as her second family. Although she thoroughly loved a night out on the town and a good meal herself, she often said it gave her just as much pleasure to see other people, dressed up, out enjoying themselves and eating a great meal.

In lieu of flowers or contributions, the family asks that you go out, raise a glass to Margaret's memory, and enjoy a great meal for yourselves…it would have made her very happy.

Arrangements are made under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 (518-584-5373).

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
