Saratoga Springs, NY - Margaret Mary Markes (nee McMahon), 85, passed away Oct. 18, 2012 in Saratoga Springs. Born in Saratoga Springs to Carl and Mary McMahon on May 3, 1927, she graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1945 and attended Albany State Teacher's College. She married Robert J. Markes on December 27, 1948 and he remains the love of her life. She was involved in many volunteer programs in Kingston and Saratoga Springs, NY. Margaret is predeceased by her parents, Carl and Mary McMahon, her sisters, Jeanne McMahon Coseo and Mary McMahon Reuss and her second born infant child, Robert Markes. Margaret is survived by her spouse, Robert J. Markes Sr., and her siblings: John McMahon, Edward McMahon, Elizabeth McCarthy and Katherine Coons. She was greatly loved by her five children and eighteen grandchildren: son Paul (wife Leslie) of Beauford, Georgia (grandchildren Robert (wife Joie), Kevin, John and David), her son Robert Markes (wife Margaret) of Candor, NY (grandchildren Emily, Jennie (husband Andy), Selina (husband Michael), Miriam and Laura), daughter Mary Hunt (husband Gregory) of Cape Cod, Massachusetts (grandchildren Brian, Elizabeth, and Kyle), daughter Ann Markes of Northampton, Massachusetts (husband Matthew Kane) (grandchildren Amy, Timothy and Daniel) and son John Markes of Kingston, NY (wife Debra) (grandchildren Caitlin, Sean and Kiley); seven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Sunday (Oct. 21, 2012) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Very Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie, pastor and burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Wesley Foundation, 131 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. The excellent care provided to Margaret and her family by the Wesley Community made her final days as restful and peaceful as possible. Their ongoing care of her husband, Robert, is equally appreciated.
