Margaret “Peggy” Beggs Lindsay, 90, of Clifton Park and Prestwick Chase Saratoga, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on October 28, 2026 following a long illness.
Peggy was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to Alan H. Beggs and Louise M. Hart Beggs. She grew up in Short Hills, New Jersey and attended The Kent Place School in Summit New Jersey, Wheaton College, Massachusetts and Russell Sage College, Albany, New York.
Peggy is survived by her three children, Craig Lindsay of Rotterdam New York, Eric Lindsay of Atlanta Georgia, and Ann Lindsay-Brown and son-in-law Richard Brown of Cooperstown New York; her beloved grandchildren Allyson, Scott, Steven, Ellery, Abigail and Lindsay; and her great-grandchildren Noelle and Skye as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harris Lindsay. Also preceded in death by Alan and Louse Beggs, her parents; Alan and Irene Beggs, her brother and sister- in- law; Suzanne and Bob Ward, sister-in-law and husband; Nancy and Paul Terrio, sister-in-law and husband.
A life- long student and teacher Peggy’s inquisitive mind was always busy! During her college tenure, she studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris. Peg often sprinkled French phrases into her speech, a favorite was, “Le diner est pret.” Following her retirement as an elementary school teacher, Peggy became involved in teaching English as a Second Language. She was devoted to her students and was visited by several until late in her life. Peg took great pleasure studying Spanish and adored her classmates as well as her weekly conversational Spanish class. During retirement she also enjoyed traveling the world with her husband. New cultures captivated her imagination; following her trips she would regale her family with their exciting exploits.
Peg was devoted to her Book Club that met monthly for decades. Together, they had many adventures in and around New England. The annual trip to Cape Cod with friends was a favorite time for Peg, breathing fresh salt air and feeling sand between her toes brought her great joy. Gardening was a lifelong passion. Over the course of 30 years she transformed her sandy-soiled home into a green paradise. As a member of the Clifton Park Garden club for 20 years, we can enjoy her teamwork at the Clifton Park Library to this day. More recently, she became a devotee of writing Haiku poetry and enjoyed playing Rumikube at her retirement community.
An avid sailor, Peg and her brother Alan raced catboats in Chatham Harbor and Pleasant Bay, Chatham MA. She also loved sailing on Lake George with her friends followed by half a beer. Peggy’s children will especially miss her energetic “Hello,” given upon every greeting. We can imagine her sailing on her Oyster River her trademark smile ready to greet her next adventure.
