Obituary

Saratoga Springs - Margaret Priester Pitney passed away on Friday (Sep. 18, 2009) at Saratoga Hospital. She was 86. Born on July 31, 1923, Margaret was the daughter of Henry and Addie Priester. After graduating from Saratoga High School, she worked at the Van Raalte Co and General Electric in Schenectady, NY. On September 27, 1942, Margaret married Jerome V. Pitney, Jr. and together they raised five children. They were also partners in owning and managing Thoro - Bred Feed and Supply Company for over 40 years. Margaret was an active member of Court #422 McLoughlin, Catholic Daughters of the America and served as its Grand Regent for several terms. She also served as a member of the Parish Council of the Church of St. Peter. Margaret was predeceased by her son, Jerome V. Pitney III and by her husband of 57 years Jerome V. Pitney, Jr. Survivors include her son, William D. (Gail) Pitney of Saratoga Springs and daughters, Judith A. Pitney of Chestnut Hill, MA, Margaret M. (John) Jordan of Mayfield NY and Kathleen M. Pitney of Niskayuna, NY. Margaret is also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 6pm on Sunday (Sep. 20, 2009) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Officers and members of the Catholic Daughters Court #422 McLoughlin will meet at 3pm Sunday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday (Sep. 21, 2009) in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie, Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia and Rev. Michael G. Cambi. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue. Donations may be made in Margaret's name to the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or to Mary's Haven, 35 New Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
