Saratoga Springs, NY - Margaret (Peppie) Smith Roohan of Collins Terrace, passed away on July 8th, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital.
Peppie was born August 6th, 1930, in Albany, NY. She grew up in Troy, NY and was the daughter of the late Robert T. and Margaret G. Smith. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy and Saint Joseph's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Upon completing a dietitian internship at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital on Staten Island, she was on the dietary staff at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany.
Peppie was the widow of John T. Roohan and survived by six children and their spouses, J. Thomas (Kristie), Michael G. (Margaret), William S. (Lynn), Annie (John) Krasnicki, Edward C. (Colleen) and Kate R. (Michael) Naughton. Also the grandmother of 26 grandchildren, Mary Hallquist (Derek), John Thomas Roohan III, Daniel Roohan (Lindley Hickox), Kevin Roohan, Kristina Cahill (Michael), Mark Johnson, Kathryn Gulisane (Jake), Mary Leigh Roohan, Connor Roohan, Colleen Roohan, Ashlynn Herlong (Gregg), Kiley Mellor (Will), William Roohan III, Casey Roohan, Edward Krasnicki, Megan Lyons (John), Patricia Krasnicki, Katie Krasnicki, Edward Roohan, Mary Kate Roohan, Joseph Roohan, Sheila Roohan, Michael Naughton, Bridget Naughton, Jack Naughton and Annie Ryan Naughton. And seven great-grandchildren, John Hallquist, Margaret Hallquist, Charlotte Roohan, Forest Cahill, Barrett Cahill, Laney Herlong and Grace Lyons, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothea S. Tobin of East Greenbush and Ruth M. Smith of Troy.
Family and friends may call from 3 pm. to 7 pm. on Thursday, July 13th at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Peppie following the wake at 7 pm., with the Most Reverend Harry J. Flynn, D.D. Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis presiding. A private interment will be on Friday morning.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to: Saint Clement's Regional Catholic School, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or Saratoga Central Catholic High School, 247 Broadway, Saratoga Springs NY 12866.
