Obituary

Saratoga Springs Margaret E. Smith, Margie to all who knew her, a resident of Maplewood Manor, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Saratoga Hospital. She was 87. Born in Bronx, NY on August 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Dugan Flynn. In the 1940s, Margaret worked as an elevator operator at the Waldorf Astoria and ran the elevator for such notables as the Duke and Dutchess of Windsor and General Douglas MacArthur. She met her husband Pete, a bellman at the New Yorker, and they married in 1948. After the family came to Saratoga in 1963, she worked as an electronics assembler for ESPY Manufacturing and later for Tele Resources in Clifton Park. Margaret was a parishioner and communicant at St. Clements Church. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Pete L. Smith; her two brothers, Jack and Michael Flynn who died in WWII and her sisters, Ann and Gertie. Survivors include her two sons, Stephen L. Smith of Bath, NY, Peter J. Smith (Susan) of Baltimore, MD and her four grandchildren, Peggy, Patrick, Michael (Liam) and Clare Elise. Relative and friends may call from 6:30 to 8pm Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, August 1, 2008 at St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial will follow in the family plot at Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave. Memorials may be made in her name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Upstate NY/Vermont Chapter, 5 Computer Drive West, Suite 100, Albany, NY 12205.
