Saratoga Springs, NY - Marie Coppernoll (Pace) Baker, 93, a lifelong resident passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013. Born on Aug. 22, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mary (A'Hearn) Coppernoll, Sr. Marie is survived by four generations of loving family which include her two daughters, Barbara (Joseph) Pace MacFarland and Mary Lou Baker; five grandchildren, Linda L. MacFarland, David W. (Lisa) MacFarland, Sr., Mary Kate MacFarland, Jo-Ann (Mike) MacFarland O'Reilly, Carrie J. MacFarland; eight great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kaela, Emalee and Reid Priester, David W. Jr. and Tyler MacFarland and Ryan (fiancé Mallory Marotta) and Dylan O'Reilly and two great-great-grandchildren, Damien S. DeCrescenzo and Aiva J. Priester. She is also survived by her niece Theresa (Victor) Harper and her nephew Arthur J. (Jean) Coppernoll and their families. In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her two sisters, Catherine and Elizabeth and her two brothers, Arthur J. (Helen) and Harvey Jr. (Grace). Marie was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School class of 1938. She was always proud of the fact that she lived most of her life in the house she was born in on "The Rocks". As a young woman, Marie was chief telephone operator of the Grand Union Hotel and the Gideon Putnam Hotel. In her later years she worked at ESPEY Manufacturing and then General Foods, retiring from there in 1976. Marie was an avid speed skater and founding member of the Saratoga Winter Club. She loved music and greatly enjoyed dancing. For many years she enjoyed bowling and golfing in league play on the General Foods team. She was civic minded, serving at the election polls for many years. Marie was an assistant coach, manager and scorekeeper over a number of years for Miss Softball Saratoga. She greatly enjoyed attending her grandchildrens' and great-grandchildrens sporting events and other activities. Marie enjoyed going out to lunch or dinner and throughout her life she traveled to many destinations with her family, particularly enjoying Vermont, Maine and Wildwood, NJ. In her retirement she enjoyed crocheting and knitting at home as well as at the Saratoga Senior Citizen Center, playing cards with many friends at Wilton Senior Citizen Center and cheering on the NY Yankees. Marie loved and enjoyed all the family pets and cared about all animals. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. The family extends special recognition to caregivers, Jody Clearwater and Linda Feathers and to Community Hospice of Saratoga for their extraordinary care and friendship towards Marie.
