Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Marie T. Costanzo died on May 21, 2009. She was 76. Born on May 21, 1933 in Brooklyn, Marie was a daughter of the late John and Christina Stalzer. She was the widow of the late Anthony M. Costanzo. Marie grew up in Ridgewood, Queens and was proud of her Gottscheer Austrian heritage. She was christened and confirmed at St. Brigids Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn where she was a communicant. She attended St. Brigids Grammar School and graduated from St. Josephs Commercial High School in Brooklyn with Regents Honors in 1951. She was a member of the St. Josephs Chapter of the Leo Honor Society of the Diocese of Brooklyn. After graduation, she worked in the office of the registrar at The Cooper Union and the research department of Grant Advertising in New York City. She moved to West Hempstead, Long Island after marrying in 1958 and again to Saratoga Springs in 1968 with her family. Marie worked until her retirement in 1993 as the secretary of the music department at Skidmore College, where she was well-liked by fellow staff, faculty and students. She was a communicant of St. Clements Roman Catholic Church. Her family will remember her as a loving and caring wife, mother and generous friend who had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great cook, and who enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, refinishing furniture, making jewelry, reading and the cultural offerings of Saratoga Springs, where she was a member of Saratoga Film Forum. Also, she attended both the 1939 and 1964 New York Worlds Fairs in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens. Marie was predeceased in December 2008 by her husband of fifty years Anthony, and is survived by her daughters, Paula of Jamaica, Queens; Christina of Long Island; Anita of Everett, MA and Andrea of Saratoga Springs; a sister, Dorothy DeRosa of Great Kills, Staten Island; and sons-in-law Charles Neuner of Long Island and Alan Edstrom of Saratoga Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 10:30am at St. Clements Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs. Interment will be at noon at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. Memorial gifts in Maries honor may be made to the charity of your choice.
