Pompay
December 12, 1935 – August 20, 2023
Saratoga Springs, NY - Marie J. (MacNeil) Pompay, 87, a sweet and gentle soul, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2023.
She was born on December 12, 1935, in Everett, MA to the late John and Sarah MacNeil. A year after her birth, Marie and her parents moved to Albany, NY, and then five years later, moved and settled in Saratoga Springs, NY. Marie was a 1955 graduate of St. Peter's Academy.
Marie worked many years after school and in the summers, helping her parents out at the Saratoga Diner. After graduating from Albany Business College, she took a job at The Saratogian Newspaper in the Display Advertising Dept. During her time at the Saratogian, she enjoyed working with area business owners creating artwork and advertising to promote their products and services.
Marie was a member of St. Peter's parish and supporter of St. Peter's Elementary and Saratoga Central Catholic High School through many years of volunteer work.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marie married John (Jack) Pompay, Jr. in 1960. Together they raised a family of five, instilling the values of faith, love and the importance of family.
Marie's home was a warm and welcoming place, always opened to family and friends. Whether it was for a holiday celebration or a Sunday afternoon gathering, she dazzled all with her delicious home cooked meals.
A very talented and creative person, Marie appreciated many varieties of arts and crafting. She could fashion most anything from sewing and knitting dresses and sweaters, to photography and painting beautiful artwork. Marie enjoyed traveling and the opportunity to dine with her family and friends. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activities and sporting events. She was a thoroughbred racetrack fan, especially enjoying a day at the track when her daughter's horses were running.
Marie is predeceased by her husband of fifty-nine years John J. Pompay. Jr. (Jack).
She was a proud mother of five children, Teresa Pompay (Barry Berkelhammer), Elizabeth Sirianni (Joseph), Jacqueline Pompay Maher, John Pompay (Karen), and Michael Pompay (Debra).
She was an adoring grandmother to Chance Pompay; Briana Bernardo (Garrett), Julia and Nicala Sirianni; Jocelyn, Kristen and Lauren Maher; John Allan, Ryan and Arabella Pompay, Melody Silva (Chris); Jelena and Ava Pompay, and her great-grandson Brodie Bernardo.
