Saratoga Springs, NY - Marie Kieran Sleasman entered eternal life Monday August 05, 2013 in the loving presence and comfort of her family with the grace, dignity and determination that defined her life. Marie enjoyed a life of fulfillment, inspiring all she encountered with her kindness, devotion and intractable belief that as God's children we are called to share the optimism and humor of the human spirit and the gifts and blessings bestowed upon us each through His will. Marie was proud of her Irish heritage and the family she leaves behind in her beloved Ireland. Born in Albany, NY, daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine (Hanley) Kieran, wife of the late Christopher W. Sleasman whom together with his brothers Fred and John, were proprietors of the Modern Food Market in Albany. Marie was also predeceased by her daughter Jeannie Marie, son in law Joseph Maddalena and brothers Owen Kieran and Joseph Kieran. Marie enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an educator in the Shenendehowa School System, receiving both her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from the College of St. Rose, Albany. After formal "retirement", Marie volunteered working with children at Ballard Elementary School in S. Glens Falls, served as Eucharistic Minister and Volunteer visiting housebound and infirmed members of her community. In addition, Marie shared her passion and knowledge of the Catholic Faith with the young parishioners of St. Clement's Church as a religious education instructor. Marie's greatest joy and life's purpose was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sharing in their success, encouraging in life's difficulties, confident in the character of the people she knew to be her own. Marie, with her late husband Christopher, leave to their lasting legacy 10 children, Daniel M.(Marianne) Sleasman of Loudonville, Christine Maddalena of Pittsfield, MA, Rosemary E. (Thomas) Horan of Schodack, Kevin T. Sleasman ( Patrice Boucher) of Albany, Stephen J. (Nadine) Sleasman of Saratoga Springs, Martin J. Sleasman of Albany, Susan M. (Mark) Rekucki of Ballston Lake, Vincent P. Sleasman of Saratoga Springs, Andrew P. (Patricia) Sleasman of Wilton, and Peter J. (Kathleen) Sleasman of East Greenbush. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Mary Sleasman. Relatives and friends are welcome to a Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial and Celebration of the Life of Marie at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 11:00am, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
