IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn E
Schweiker
May 10, 1937 – February 18, 2023
Saratoga Springs, NY- Marilyn Evans Schweiker, 85, of Saratoga Springs, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 18th, 2023, surrounded by her loving daughters. Marilyn was born in Troy, New York, on May 10, 1937, to parents John (Jack) Evans & Anna Leahy Evans. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, Catholic Central High School, class of 1955, and Mildred Elley Business School. She had many stories about the the fun she had at Catholic High, and never missed a reunion.
Marilyn met her future husband, J. William (Bill) Schweiker, in September 1957, and they were married on September 20th, 1958 at Sacred Heart Church, in Troy, NY. They were happily married for 62 years, until his death in August 2021. They spent the first few years of married life moving due to Bill's career; from Burlington, VT, to Salem, MA, and then living for a very short stint in St. Paul, MN, before landing in Saratoga Springs, NY, where they lived in the same house on Pinewood Avenue since 1966.
Marilyn was a stay at home mom, spending the summers at the Kaydeross Park pool with all the neighborhood mothers and children. The winters were spent skiing at Garnet Mountain each weekend. She had a tight knit group of friends, the Lunch Bunch, who were regulars at Lillian's or Gaffney's each week. Much shenanigans ensued during these lunches.
She was a teaching assistant at Malta Avenue School later in life, helping students learn to read; a job she greatly enjoyed.
Marilyn was an active volunteer, including the Children's Committee, where one year, Santa stored piles of Christmas gifts in our basement. She was a member of the Junior Civic League, and assisted at the Saratoga County Mental Health Clinic. She was a long time member of the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club where she enjoyed socializing by the pool.
Marilyn was a communicant of St. Clement's Church, and was a member of the Ladies of Charity. She made sandwiches at St. Clement's for the backstretch workers. She was a longtime committee member for the St. Clement's Horse Show. She and her friends Gretta and Gloria ran the show's Stabling Office (two weeks of shenanigans).
Marilyn and her husband Bill enjoyed downhill skiing, bike riding, and were avid walkers. They also enjoyed traveling throughout New England and Europe, and visited Arizona each February.
She is survived by her three daughters, Lisa Borchers (Robert), Molly Flanagan (Bruce), and Martha Ray. Marilyn was a proud Nana to her seven grandchildren, Will and Grace Borchers, EmmaKate and Jack Flanagan, and Sadie, Chloe and Abby Ray. She is also survived by her nephews Rick and David Schnell. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, and her sister, Margaret Schnell.
Marilyn's family would like to express their love and gratitude to Margaret Bishop, her aide and dear friend, whose skill and compassion allowed her to remain at her beloved home for the last year and a half.
