Obituary

Gansevoort, NY - Marion S. Hazard, 99 years young, died peacefully on November 28, 2021 at The Home of Good Shepherd in Wilton where she has resided for the past 7 1/2 years. She was born in NYC on April 9, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Alice (Brogan) and Harry Snyder. The Snyder family moved to Saratoga Springs when Marion was 7 years old. She graduated from Saratoga High School and then went on to pursue her degree in Home Economics from Plattsburgh College.

On April 11, 1942 she married the love of her life, Victor Hazard with whom she raised seven children. Marion was very active in her children's activities, and always welcomed their friends with no invitation needed - 198 Lake Avenue had a "swinging back door". Sit down dinners were not just for the weekend; they were cherished every night as the family relaxed and talked about their day.

Marion was a communicant of St. Clement's Church where she was also a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Ladies of Charity. She spent countless hours volunteering at St. Clement's School and Church fundraisers. After her children were grown Marion was a part time Culinary Instructor at BOCES under George Hoffis. Marion was a volunteer at Wesley Nursing Home for over 25 years, through her 80's. She was a member of an elite Knitting Club group of Saratoga's finest ladies. She was an avid bridge player; she loved to play for fun, but was excited to be invited to the "serious players" games. She also enjoyed a good game of golf.

Marion was awarded the "Matriarch of Saratoga Springs Award" at her 90th birthday celebration by then Mayor Scott Johnson who declared April 9th "Marion Hazard Day". She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul. She was full of wisdom and a true inspiration to anyone who knew her. She was an amazing cook and homemaker and did so with ease and grace.

Along with her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years in January of 1992, and her sister Doris Buckmiller. She is survived by her seven children; Victor Hazard (Mary Jo), Jeff Hazard, Mary Jane Anderson (Frank), John Hazard (Dorothy), Joseph Hazard (Debra), Alice Dennis (Gary), and Michael Hazard; sister Virginia O'Donnell; brother Harry Snyder; 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and 19 nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to "Mar's girls" at the Home of the Good Shepherd, and to Doctor Sanjay Taneja and his staff for their love, care, and compassion.
