Saratoga Springs, NY - Marion H. Callahan Runge, of Schuyler Dr., passed away Sunday (Feb. 8, 2009) at her residence. She was 84. Born on July 8, 1924 in Peru, NY, she was the daughter of the late Willis B. and Elizabeth H. (Johnson) Harper. Marion was married in 1971 to Robert E. Runge, who died in 2007. In addition, to her parents and husband, Marion was predeceased by her brother, George Harper in 1989. Her greatest loss was her son, John W. Callahan, who died March 3, 2004. Shortly after graduating from Peru High School, Marion and her family moved from their farm to Syracuse NY, where they lived for several years before moving to Saratoga Springs. Marion was proud of the varied jobs she held during her career. She completed cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser at the Gideon Putnam Hotel at one time. She also worked in the meat department at several area Grand Union supermarkets and eventually retired from Espey Manufacturing after many years. Marion loved the outdoors and often talked about growing up on the farm, as well as the time she spent with her father hunting. In later years, she treasured the time spent at the camp she and her husband owned in the Adirondacks; she was particularly happy to have shared the experience with her son and his family. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Lisa L Callahan and two grandchildren, Harper and Lindsay Callahan of Saratoga Springs. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 3pm Thursday (Feb. 12, 2009) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373), followed by a funeral service at 3pm at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Keeseville, NY. Memorials may be made in her name to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
