Mark
Ventra
Jan 1, 1961 — Jul 28, 2026
Ballston Spa, NY
Ballston Spa, NY - Mark C.A. Ventra passed away on July 28th, 2026, in his home surrounded by family.
Mark was born in Syracuse, New York on January 1, 1961, to Anthony and Patricia Ventra where he grew up among his tight-knit extended family. He moved to Saratoga to attend Skidmore college where he met his wife, Gabrielle, and they settled locally after both had graduated.
At Skidmore College he attained a Bachelor’s in Business and was later inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame with his 1983 Lacrosse team. His passion for lacrosse never faded: he served as assistant head coach of the Blue Streaks lacrosse team at Saratoga Springs High School well into his retirement, leaving a profound impact on the boys he helped nurture into team players and leaders.
Mark’s enthusiasm, passion, and tenacity made ripples everywhere he went, leaving lasting impressions on those around him. He didn’t let his first battle with leukemia defeat him; instead, he went on to become a Livestrong coach at the YMCA, inspiring others to follow his example and keep fighting. Even in the throes of his later struggle with pancreatic cancer, he still came through for the players on his lacrosse team, inspiring them with the indomitable spirit that defined him.
When he wasn’t coaching, fishing, or digging deep into his latest hobby, Mark could always be found in the kitchen, and he was well-known for his elaborate and delicious meals, cookouts, and secret recipes. His love of music meant the house was always loud and lively.
Mark is survived by his wife Gabrielle, three children Nicholas, Jonathan, and Olivia, sister (Sandra), and mother (Patricia), as well as many loving cousins, relatives and his beloved lab, Ginny. He is predeceased by his father, Anthony.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N Broadway, Saratoga Springs.
A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donating to the American Cancer Society in Mark’s honor.
