She spent 71 years of marriage to Hubert A. Loeffler, Sr. who was the love of her life. They met at a square dance in Stoney Creek, N.Y. They continued dancing many years into their marriage when they celebrated her birthday each New Year’s Eve. Marlene spent her early work life at The Grand Union grocery store as a cashier. She served on committees, volunteered in the office, was an organizer for the church nursery and was adult advisor for the youth group. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler and bowled on the church bowling league. She was a Cub Scout den mother for a number of years. During later years, she was a member of The Red Hat Society.
Her interests were many. Recently, she enjoyed watching baseball. In 1953 she belonged to a woman’s softball team called The Red Caps. She passed the time working word puzzles and watching the Game Show Network and westerns on TV. She was an animal lover of all kinds, especially Boston Terriers of which she had three over the years. Marlene and her husband loved the decades they spent camping with family and friends at Lake Eaton in The Adirondacks.
