Martin George Hartmann, Jr.
Saratoga Springs NY – Martin "Marty" Hartmann Jr, 85 years old, passed away on Tuesday January 24, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Marty was born on October 4 th , 1937, in Brooklyn NY, parents the late Martin George, Sr. and Cecelia Matilda Hartmann. He graduated from the prestigious Stuyvesant High School of New Yok City majoring in science. He then attended The City College of New York, graduating with a bachelors in Chemical Engineering. Soon after he graduated, he moved to Albany, NY where he worked for the State of New York as a Tax Valuation Engineer. It was there that he met his future wife, Marion A. (Haupt) Hartmann and the couple was married in June of 1965. The couple settled in Latham NY.
Marty retired from the State of New York, after 36 years at the Department of Equalization and Assessment in Albany.
Marty and Marion moved to Saratoga in spring of 2007, and they spent fall and winters at their home in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Marty had many joys in his life, which included traveling the globe with Marion, and spending time with his granddaughter, son, and daughter-in-law. Some activities that brought Marty joy were walks along the beaches of Hilton Head, dining in Saratoga, and spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Audrey. He loved to read and collected hundreds of publications, mainly focused on trains and subways, or older aircraft.
Marty was also very active with the Empire State Aeroscience Museum in Schenectady NY.
Marty leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Marion, their son Martin Scott Hartmann, and daughter-in-law Nikki (Cooke) Hartmann of Glens Falls, and his only grandchild Audrey. Marty was predeceased by his only sister, Ann Hartmann, in September of 2006.
A special thanks to the staff of Schuyler Ridge Residential Healthcare of Clifton Park, NY who cared for Marty in his final years.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday January 31, 2023, at William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (518-584-5373), Saratoga Springs, NY. A funeral home service will be celebrated at 6pm by Pastor Adam Wiegand.
Burial will be private.
