Obituary
Saratoga Springs, NY—Martin John (Marty) Hughes, 66, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Saratoga Hospital.
Born March 5, 1951, in Cambridge, NY, Marty graduated from Greenwich Central School in 1969 and studied liberal arts at Bard College in Annandale, NY. He later completed the culinary arts program at Adirondack Community College. Marty loved his adopted hometown of Saratoga Springs, working in some of the city's fine restaurants, and making many friends up and down Broadway. Marty was a gifted poet and keen observer of politics and the human condition.
He is survived by his loving companion of six years, Alexandra Shattuck; four sisters, Meg Hughes of Albany, Jane Weir of Glens Falls, Elizabeth Hughes of Clifton Park, and Lucina Verish of Doylestown, PA; three nieces, a nephew, and one grand-nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarissa Tefft Hughes and George E. Hughes of Greenwich, NY.
There will be no calling hours.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the Funeral Liturgy in Marty's honor at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, at Bethesda Episcopal Church, 41 Washington Street, Saratoga Springs. Interment will follow at Greenridge Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (584-5373).
