Wilton, NY - Martin L. Volin passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015 at the age of 83. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Marty was the youngest of Rose and Abraham Volin's five children. He graduated from James Madison H.S. in Brooklyn in 1949 and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Pace University in 1953. In college, he was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams. His record led the university to induct him into its Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. Upon graduation from Pace, Marty enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, completing the OCS program at Quantico, VA. He was assigned to overseas duty with the 9th Marines and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. Following his service, Marty built his business career representing major pharmaceutical, fragrance and fashion companies in Metropolitan New York; his skills included sales, promotion, customer relations and marketing analysis. In June 1959, Marty married the former Barbara Tobias, raising three children on Long Island's North Shore, where they lived for 45 years. After retirement, Marty and Barbara settled in Wilton in 2003. Marty immediately joined the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard, where he served for a decade, holding positions on the finance committee and as a trustee in charge of public relations. He was also Vice Commander of Jewish War Veterans, Saratoga Springs, Post 36. Marty is survived by his wife Barbara; his children, Susan (Andy Zimmerman), Jacqueline and Andrew; his best pals, grandchildren Wendy and Stephen and his brother Saul. Relatives and friends will gather and then process at 11:45am Monday, June 15, 2015 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway Saratoga Springs to the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville where graveside services with military honors will begin at 12:30pm.
