Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY-- Mary Millar Campbell (nee Bell), 97, passed away at home on October 6, 2022.  She was born at home on June 15, 1925 in Glasgow, Scotland to the late Thomas James Bell (Jim) and Agnes Macaulay Wood Bell (Nancy).  She loved her Lord and Savior, her beloved husband and her family.

Survivors include three daughters--Nancy (Michael) Dore, Beth A. Comer and Joan (John) Merboth; seven grandchildren--Kevin (Erin) Dore, Christina (Brian) Strohman, Daniel (Halana) Comer, Christopher (Jennie) Dore, Austin Merboth, Ryan (Anna) Dore, and Shannon Merboth; and six great-grandchildren--John Michael Dore, Andrew Dore, Zachary Strohman, Lily Dore, Evan Strohman and Samuel Dore, to whom she was adoringly called "Meema."  Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, J. Leslie Campbell, who passed away at the age of 92 in 2016.

Mary and her family immigrated from Scotland in 1929, originally living in Ohio before settling in Kearny, NJ in 1935 where she attended school and the Kearny Bible Chapel until her marriage. She married the love of her life, J. Leslie Campbell, in 1953; they were married for 62 years.   They purchased their lifetime home in Fair Lawn, NJ where they raised their three daughters.   Mary faithfully attended, worshipped and served at Valley Bible Chapel in Washington Township, NJ.   Mary and Les left Fair Lawn to spend their retirement years with family in Saratoga Springs, NY, where they were both selflessly cared for by family at home until their deaths.

Mary's primary love in life was her Lord, Jesus Christ.  Her life and actions reflected her love for Christ and for the Word of God.  She served the Lord faithfully and generously through the gifts of service and hospitality. Mary was a gifted hostess. For decades she served on countless women's ministry committees at Valley Bible Chapel. She was a regular volunteer at Christian Missions in Many Lands (CMML) serving and helping to clothe missionaries worldwide. She regularly entertained ministers for Sunday dinner, hosted socials for friends, and entertained widows. On many occasions she opened her home to young people, friends and women-in-need, often for extended periods of time when she would care for them and sometimes nurse them back to health. She was truly a caring and generous woman who loved to laugh, and she was a friend to all.  She will be dearly missed.
