Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY Mary Daley passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at Saratoga Hospital. She was 93. Born on Oct. 11, 1918 on her familys horse farm in County Limerick, Ireland, she was the eldest child of the late Thomas and Catherine Ryan Keyes. In 1926 Marys family immigrated to the United States settling in Brooklyn, NY where her uncle was a doctor. When she was 16, her mother died leaving Mary to raise her five siblings, a role she assumed with a maturity beyond her years. Mary and her husband Edward married in 1938, spending 61 wonderful years together until Eddies passing in 1999. During their married life Mary and Eddie lived in Brooklyn, Flushing and Long Island developing dear and lifelong friendships. In later years they wintered in Florida and spent summers in Saratoga Springs to be near their daughter Pat, granddaughters and great-grandchildren. For the past 14 years Mary was a resident of the Embury Apartments. Mary was involved in many civic and social activities. While living on Long Island she volunteered many hours at St. Charles Hospital and Little Flower Orphanage. She was devoted to her religion and was very active in the Catholic Church. Most recently Mary was a parishioner of St. Clements Church and served as a Eucharistic minister to the homebound and patients at Saratoga Hospital. She enjoyed playing bridge, participating in prayer group and above all, spending time with her family and friends who she prayed for daily. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her son-in-law Thomas Flanagan, her granddaughter Patricia, grandson Patrick, her brothers: Thomas, Edmund and Joseph and her sisters: Rita Brick and Theresa Thompson. She was also predeceased by several nieces and nephews. Survivors include her loving daughter Patricia Flanagan; her granddaughters, Mary (Rob) Gammon, Kathy (Ray) Bobbitt and Peggy (Rodney) Gray; her great-grandchildren, all who affectionately called her Nana Bean, Matthew (Stacey) Gammon, Ryan Bobbitt, Emma Bobbitt, Taylor Gray and Madison Gray. In addition, Mary is survived by many nieces and nephews to whom she was very close, several cousins and many dear friends. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 at St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peters Cemetery, West Ave. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Saratoga Hospital, third floor C-wing and Drs Sooriabalan and Liebers for the kind care given to Mary and her family in her final days.
