IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary E.
Grasso
February 18, 1941 – October 3, 2021
Saratoga Springs, NY- Mary E. Grasso, 80, passed away Sunday, October 3 rd peacefully at home. Mary was the only child of the late George & Edith Schmidt. She was a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs, graduated from Saratoga High School in 1954, and shortly thereafter started her career as a teller with the Adirondack Trust Bank where she was known to many for her friendly outgoing manner and her detail-oriented professionalism. October 18, 1970, she married Joseph Grasso and became an instant Mom to his 3 children. With her strong faith in God, she followed this new path with grace and thankfulness, she was truly a beloved wife and mother.
Mary was a devout Catholic and will be remembered for her selfless acts of charity especially for the downtrodden. She supported many charities for the Homeless, the Veterans, the Blind, and our Furry Friends, just to name a few. She always engaged those who might otherwise be overlooked or ignored with a smile, and friendly greeting or some gesture to acknowledge them.
She loved animals and kept a healthy supply of dog treats at her ready should a pet be walking by. In her neighborhood, all the dogs knew her and would make the ritual detour to her driveway for the expected treat and a pat on the head. She had many wonderful visits from her grandchildren, and she cherished every moment and recalled those times often. Her interests and activities included outings with the retirees from the Adirondack Trust Company, playing bocce ball with the gang, watching game shows on TV, baking with her granddaughter, attending church, and shopping with her dear friend Bobbi Mansfield.
Mary is survived by her 3 children: Rosemarie Thornton, Tina Grasso-Logozzo & husband Ettore Logozzo, and Ralph Grasso; 4 grandchildren : Jacob Knoll & wife Shevalee Knoll, Shawna Thornton-Williams & husband Alex Williams, Raymond Kraft & wife Jessy Kraft, and Danny Thornton; 3 great-grandchildren: Connor Knoll, Blake Knoll, and Sasha Thornton; and 2 Cousins: Alma Arpey & husband Frank Arpey and their family, Linda Lewis and her family; and her Brother-in-law Ralph Grasso Jr & wife Deloras and their family.
