Saratoga Springs - Mary Elizabeth McMartin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend, passed away Saturday September 26, 2009 at Saratoga Hospital after a two week hospitalization. She was 81. Born February 20, 1928 in Salem, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Hanon McCann. She graduated from Salem High School and thereafter attended and graduated from Troy Business School with a degree in business. In 1966, she began working as a secretary at Skidmore College and continued for 12 years. She retired due to health reasons. Mary's interests throughout her life included baking, traveling, watching her favorite soap opera's, "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful", watching her favorite television shows, "Wheel of Fortune", "Jeopardy" and "The Price is Right". She also enjoyed watching and cheering on her favorite college football team, Notre Dame. Most of all, Mary truly enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by one sister, Eileen McCann Walker. Mary is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 57 years, Robert Spencer McMartin of Saratoga Springs; her daughter, Patricia DeMatteo and her husband Tony; her son, Robert Michael McMartin and his wife Nicole; one brother, Arthur McCann and wife Eileen; one sister, Joan Frulla; five grandchildren, Erin Dahlstrom, Julie DeMarco, Maria DeMatteo, Sean and Cassandra McMartin and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Thursday Oct. 1, 2009 at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Greenwich, NY.
