Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY – Mary Louise ("Mary Lou") Mullaney passed away peacefully on June 10, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Mary Lou was born in Troy, NY on June 8, 1932, the daughter of the late Thomas J. Changa and Eleanor C. Kazmierski.  She grew up in Watervliet, NY where she met her husband, Richard F. "Dick" Mullaney and they moved to Saratoga with their young family in 1959.

Mary Lou's years in Saratoga were dedicated to raising her family while creating a career for herself. She graduated from the first keypunch operating class out of BOCES and continued as one of the first certified keypunch educators. She was employed by the Saratoga Springs school system for 20 years where her contributions in the payroll office are legendary to this day.

Mary Lou then opened a boutique on Broadway. She not only dressed women in our community for over 30 years, her shop became a community gathering place and safe haven for women.

A true Saratogian, Mary Lou gave back to her community with volunteer work throughout her life.

Mary Lou's love was shared with so many beyond her family.  The door at 29 Fifth was open to all.  Her friends, her kids' friends - all were welcomed with a hug and a homemade meal.

Her life's best work however was her unending love and care for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary Lou is survived by her three children, Richard Mullaney (Marian), Eleanor Mullaney (Robert Coughlin), and Agnes Mullaney (Jeffrey Paisner); her 6 grandchildren Robert Coughlin, Kathryn Coughlin, Richard Mullaney, Colleen Mullaney, John Mullaney, Mikaela Straus and their spouses and partners; and her 4 great-granddaughters, Jane Coughlin, Molly Maggiotto, and her namesakes, Elizabeth Mary Mullaney and Emma Louise Maggiotto. She is also survived by her two brothers, Michael Changa and Thomas J. Changa, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard F. Mullaney.

The family cannot begin to express its gratitude to Agatha Benton for her love and endless support in Mary Lou's care over the last two years. The family would also like to thank Hospice for their compassionate care and the comfort they provided Mary Lou in her final weeks.

A public visitation will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

Mary Lou will rest at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville with her husband and partner Dick.
