Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Mary Katherine Sager Ruchalski, 90, died peacefully Wednesday night July 21, 2010 in her home on Phila Street with her loving family present. Born the daughter of the late Edith L. Mealy on April 1st,1920 in Albany, New York, she was a longtime resident of Rotterdam, NY. She was an adventurous woman and the loving and devoted wife of Thaddeus Ruchalski for 62 years. She was a graduate of Altamont High School and Mildred Elley Business School. She retired as a keypunch operator from Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) in Glenmont New York in 1987 and dedicated herself to her passion: her family. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus National Catholic Church in Schenectady, New York. She had been a member of the Ladies Home Bureau, the Rotterdam Senior Citizens Center, and the 94th Infantry Divisions Ladies Auxiliary. Her interests included horseback riding, ceramics, word puzzles, crafting, card play, camping and travel, but nothing was as important to her as supporting the people she loved, whose needs she always placed first. In addition to her loving husband, Ted, she is survived by her son, Thaddeus David Ruchalski (Kathy) of Lawrenceville, GA; her daughter, Pamela C. Funiciello (Tom) of Saratoga Springs, NY; her grandchildren, Alex A. Funiciello and Danielle Katherine Funiciello; her sister-in-law, Emily Ruchalski of Scotia, NY; cousin Norma Picard of Waterford, 6 nieces and 5 nephews. We all love her dearly and will miss her terribly. Kay was predeceased by her brother, Oscar Sager and his wife, Ann of Lynchburg, VA. She also missed the brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews who went before her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Sunday July 25, 2010 at Holy Name of Jesus National Catholic Church, 1040 Pearl Street, Schenectady. Relative and friends may call noon to 2pm Tuesday July 27 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Burial will be at 2:30 pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to give to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 who lovingly supported Kay and her family enabling her to die as she had lived her life: with grace, dignity and with her family whom she loved with devotion.
