Livestream of Mary Kay's Mass of Christian Burial, will begin at 12:00pm, Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
Mechanicville, NY- Mary Katherine "Mary Kay" Hayes Sgambati passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at the age of 86. She was comforted in knowing that her children were secure and content; surrounded by the love of family.
Born on January 28, 1940, Mary Kay was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph V. and Catherine Callahan Hayes. She was raised in Troy, New York, attended Catholic High School, and later worked for many years at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Mary Kay shared 63 loving years of marriage with her devoted husband, Stephen A. Sgambati. Together they built a family grounded in faith, love, and dedication to one another.
A devout Irish Catholic, Mary Kay attended Mass faithfully each week at St. Paul's Church. Week after week, she walked through its doors with a grateful heart, trusting in God through both joyful and difficult times. Through her example, she taught those around her the values of kindness, devotion, humility, and love.
Mary Kay found great happiness in life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Ogunquit, Maine, and cherished family dinners in Troy with her daughter and family. She treasured attending her grandchildren's sporting events and was blessed with abundant time spent with those she loved most—her family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Michael Sgambati (David), Michelle Hayes Goldman (Rob), Stephen Sgambati Jr. (Jaclyn), and Matthew Sgambati (Casey); her grandchildren, Stephanie Bruno (Peter), Steven Hayes (Amanda), Stephen Sgambati (Megan), Emily Sgambati, Alison Sgambati, Matthew Sgambati, Andrew Sgambati, and Michael Sgambati; her great-granddaughter, Madeline Bruno; and her brother, Joseph V. Hayes.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Ann McDonald and James McDonald.
Mary Kay's unwavering faith, generosity, and devotion to her family will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the family she cherished above all else.
