Saratoga Springs, NY - Mary Carol (D'Agostino) Spensieri, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her beautiful family on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the age of 82.
Born on December 25, 1934 in Saratoga Springs, NY, she grew up in a strong Italian-American community on Beekman Street and lived in Saratoga Springs her entire life. She was devoted to her family, friends, and community whom she cared for passionately.
Mary was loved by everyone and gave the same love in return and beyond. She was known for her cooking, which people from all over would enjoy. Being a proud Italian American woman, she offered up hospitality and eggplant parmisian to anyone who paid a visit. Her home was filled with laughter, tomato sauce and a sense of belonging to everyone lucky enough to have been inside it. Mary always put others needs and wants before her own, without any expectation for anything in return. She truly modeled and defined the meaning of "unconditional love".
As a mother, she raised five wonderful and successful children. However her true calling was being a grandmother. Her grandchildren will remember her as the rock on which their family was built. Extended family members and friends of the family were fortunate enough to refer to her as a second mother. Her home was the epicenter of her family, where everyone was welcome. The love from her was truly incomparable.
Mary never strove away from a challenge and always made sure tasks were completed beyond expectations. She took on responsibilities with determination, elegance, grace and a substantial amount of will. Her "never giving up" attitude was truly a lesson for all whomever had the privilege of knowing her. She was incredibly selfless, gentle, affectionate, and was so very loved.
Mary is survived in life and dearly missed by her husband of 65 years, Frank; her four children, Janice (Everett), Johnny (Christina), Frank (Jocelynn), and Tony (Angie); seven grandchildren Lindsey, Bradley, Gianni, Benjamin, Armani, Nina and Samantha; her sister, Angeline O'Rourke; two nephews and two nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents Giuseppe and Jean (Levo) D'Agostino; her brother Philip D'Agostino; brother-in-law William J. O'Rourke and her cherished daughter, Roberta M. (Robbie) Spensieri.
