Ballston Spa, NY - Melvyn Zimmermann, 76, former resident of Cooperstown, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born on December 1, 1940 in Buffalo, NY, he is the son of Martha (Pape) and the late Robert Zimmermann. Melvyn was a graduate of Iroquois Central High School in Elma, NY and received an associate's degree from SUNY Alfred. While at Alfred, he met the love of his life and soon to be wife, Sandra E. Myers. They married on Sept. 19, 1964 in East Aurora. Melvyn was a member and deacon of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hartwick Seminary, NY. He enjoyed baseball, playing the stock market and, during the 70's and 80's, was involved with Union College hockey.
In addition to his father, Melvyn was predeceased by his wife Sandy who passed away April 8, 2011.
Along with his mother Martha, survivors include his son Gary and his wife Janet; two grandchildren, Amanda and Ryan Zimmerman all of Greenfield Center and his brother James of Elma, NY.
Relatives and friends may call from 10am to 11am Thursday, June 8, 2017 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs followed by funeral services at 11am in the church.
Burial will be in the family plot at Memory Gardens, Watervliet Shaker Rd, Albany.
Donations may be made in his memory to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 149 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
