Gansevoort, NY - Michael S. Downey, a long-time resident of Saratoga Springs died unexpectedly at the age of 53 in an accident on Friday, April 20, 2018 in Schuylerville, NY while doing the work he loved.

Mike was a loving son, fiancée, brother, and uncle, survived by his mother, Sue Downey and her husband, David Oesterblad; fiancée Karen Constantino, and siblings Kevin Downey and Kathleen Gilmore. He was a loving uncle to Michael, Lauren, Andrew, and Isabelle, and a caring human to his two beloved pets, Sadie (German Shepard) and Shelby (Sheltie mutt).

Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 3, 1964 and was an entrepreneur his whole life, always thinking of the next great thing to do. He was a lover of horses and found his niche in horse transport across the east coast racing circuit over the past 15 years, building a successful business. He loved to connect and spend time with family, often by phone or text at any opportunity, sometimes just to cheer on ANY Michigan sports team that was playing. He made a point to let you know you were important to him and was a very giving man. He always had candy in his pocket to share and, in fact, his youngest niece, Isabelle, called him "The Candy Man". His loving ways will be greatly missed but his spirit continues to surround all who love him.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 6:30pm on Wednesday, April 25 with time for condolences from 4:00 – 7:00pm at Burke Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373).
