Saratoga Springs, NY - Michael J. Grolley Sr. passed away Monday October 8, 2012 at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa. Born on February 6 ,1926, he was the son of the late Mary and Jerry Grolley. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Maiello and Angeline Burnett; his brothers, John, Anthony and Albert Grolley and his brother-in-law Roy Carr. Michael proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946. He worked for the D & H Railroad until his retirement. He was a member of the Italian-American War Veterans. Michael loved spending time in the summer months at the Saratoga Race Course . His family was his greatest joy in life and he loved spending time at family gatherings. Michael is survived by his wife, Shirley, whom he married on October 12, 1952; daughter Deanne Helenek and her husband Richard; son Michael Grolley Jr. and his wife Bonnie; grandchildren Richard M Helenek and his wife Jennifer, Steven Helenek and his wife Nancy, Nicholas Grolley and his wife Elizabeth and his grandaughter Michelle Grolley. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, Richard Jr., Allie, Katie , Jacob, Jenna, Mia, and Aiden; his brother Jerry Grolley and wife Roberta and his sister-in laws Lydia Gentile and Helen Bryant, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Relatives and friends may call from 4 pm - 7 pm Thursday, October 11 at William J Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 N Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 (584-5373). Funeral services will be conducted at 12noon Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at the funeral home by the Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:30pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Maplewood Manor Residents Association, 149 Ballston Ave, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
