Saratoga Springs, NY - Michael B. McNamara, 72, passed away unexpectedly Saturday (June 10, 2017).

Born on Oct. 13, 1944 in Albany, NY, he is a son of the late Maurice and Mary Jane (Byrne) McNamara. A 1962 graduate of the former St. Peter's Academy, he served in the US Navy from 1964 to 1967 and had been stationed in Scotland and Iceland. Prior to retiring, he was a manager in computer services with SUN Microsystems in Latham.

A devoted member of the Church of St. Peter, he was a former Mass coordinator and had served as a member and pastoral council president from 2004-06. Mike enjoyed traveling, including two trips to Antarctica. All that knew him appreciated his kindness, clever wit and relaxed demeanor. Also, he was never too busy to invent a story to delight his adored grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Rita (Gredesky) McNamara; three children, Maura McNamara of Saratoga Springs, Tim (Heather) McNamara of San Diego, CA and Eileen (Thomas) Ellis of Gansevoort; four grandchildren, Finn and Theo McNamara, Clarkson and Mae Ellis; his siblings, Kathy (Greg) Menard, Thomas (Mary Jane) McNamara, Daniel (Maryanne) McNamara, Martha (Steve Aby) McNamara and Mary Ellen (Vincent Romano) McNamara and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Wednesday, June 14, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway     (584-5373).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Thursday, June 15, in the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, pastor.

Burial will follow at 12noon at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his name to St. Peter's Needy Association (SPNA), 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
