Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Michael M. Palmer, 85, of Union Ave., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on Oct. 28, 1925 in Coeymans, NY, he was the son of the late Burton and Philomena (Mastriano) Palmer. A US Navy veteran of World War Two, he served on LSM vessel #333in the American and Asiatic-Pacific campaigns and in the occupation of Japan. He organized many Navy reunions in different parts of the country and will be missed by two special Navy buddies, Stan Meddles and Fred Smolinski. He will also be missed greatly by his buddy, Bobby Edwards, who was with him every step of the way, his friend Sonny Elacqua, with whom he enjoyed many breakfasts, lunches and long phone calls. Mike and his cousin, Joe Palmer shared many happy times together, going to the races and other special experiences. To his other friends, thank you for your calls, concern and visits. A special thank you to Rosemary Nutting, who gave us love, support and much help anytime we needed it. Mike enjoyed his family, playing the horses and the slot machines. He loved to cook and made a great pasta sauce. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Santa (Joe) Orsino and his very good friend, Bill Ritz. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Helene ("Chick") Bruno Palmer; five sons, Burton (Francine) Palmer, Anthony (Marie) Palmieri, Michael (Kathy) Palmer, Jr., Mark (Diane) Bruno and David (Rebecca) Bruno; 14 grandchildren, Samantha, Aaron, Zachary, Nicholas, Michael and Matthew Palmer, Kevin (Kerri), Christopher, Derek, Chelsea, Jonathan, Nicole, Rachael and David Bruno; 2 great-grandchildren, Keirstin and Ryan Bruno; two loving sisters, Mary Ann (George) Strout and Rosemary (Joe) O'Brien; several nieces and nephews, Virginia (Carl) Senter Orsino, James (Anita) Orsino, George (Geri) Strout, Douglas (Blaine) Strout, J. Robert (Katja) O'Brien and Jodi (John) O'Brien. Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30am Tuesday Aug. 9, 2011 in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am. Rev. Matthew B. Wetsel, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at 12noon at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway 584-5373. Memorials may be made in his name to a charity of one's choice.
