Saratoga Springs, NY- Nataleno (Ned) J. Reo a resident of Saratoga Springs, NY was called home to Our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. He suffered a spontaneous hemorrhagic stroke at his home around noontime and was transported to Albany Medical Center where he died at 11:05PM.
Ned was born on Christmas Day in 1930 at home at 20 South Street, Waterford, NY to the late, Pasquale and Angelina (Zacarola) Reo. Both immigrated to the United States from Italy.
Ned is survived by his soul mate, partner, and wife Patricia Babbie-Reo. They shared 46+ wonderful years, living, working, and laughing together.
Ned was the loving Father of Carla (Nick) DiNova, cherished Step-Father to Jason K. Babbie (Frank L. Humphrey III), and Honorary Father to Erin (Ted) Piotowski, Michael (Laura) Leonard, Paul (Mona) Leonard, Christy Leonard and daughter-in-law Dena Reo. He was the very proud Grandfather (AKA Bapy/Bompa) to Connie, Mitchell, Maggie (Brian) Selig, Steven (Shonna) Mitchell, Daniel Reo (Amy), Nicole (Daniel) Moreno, Maria Leonard (Tyler), Ethan and Emma Leonard, Mary and Halley LeBrecque. Ned also got to be a Great-Grandfather to Philip Derrico; Natalie and Brian Selig; Justin, Aubrey, Emma and Natalia Reo (Moriah and Nikki); Lizzie, Dillon and Liam Mitchell (Bella); and Liliana, Daniel and Aliyah Moreno. Ned was the favorite uncle to many, nieces and nephews.
Ned graduated from Waterford High School in 1948 and entered in to the US Marine Corp, 1stDivision in 1950. Ned fought in the Korean War from November 1950 to April 1952, participating in the Battle of Hill 902 and the Chinese Offensive in The Frozen Chosen where his division of 60 soldiers held back thousands of Chinese fighters. Ned received two Purple Hearts and many awards and acknowledgements during his time in The Forgotten Korean War. Ned received a NYS Senate Liberty Year.
When Ned returned from the war he started working for General Electrical Silicones, where he worked for 38 years in research and development, quality control, and customer field service, and garnered a patent. Ned also co-founded and co-owned three successful businesses and was an integral founder and Vice President of Research & Development for Specialty Silicone Products, where he earned 12 patents.
In addition to spending time with family and friends, Ned enjoyed playing soccer, softball, and golf over the years. He was even able to play golf this summer. Ned co-owned a number of harness track racing horses with his daughter, which they loved. He was also a volunteer fireman in Waterford in his younger years, member of Knights of Columbus third degree in Waterford Council, member of the VFW Post 5800 in Waterford, and communicant of St. Clements Church of Saratoga Springs, where we attended for over 30 years. He was involved in Adoration of The Blessed Sacrament Friday mornings for many years and was a Retreat Coordinator at St. Clements.
Ned leaves behind life-long friends, Dick Cornetti and Dominick Gabriel, very special longtime neighbors and friends Peggy Marino and (deceased) Rit Moreno, special friends and Florida travelers Larry and Martha George, and his Brother-in-Law William Stickney and several cousins.
Ned was a kind, humble and loving man. He was a man of great faith. He always had time for family and friends and to attend all celebrations. He was always there for anyone in need.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Daniel Reo, his grandson Nathan Reo, his sister Julia (Raymond) Peterson and many brothers-in law and sisters-in-law.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 24, 2023 from 4-7 PM at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 in St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Ave. Saratoga Springs. Burial with military honors will follow at 11:30 AM in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY.
