Obituary

Saratoga Springs - Nellie Ann Kondrat passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 after battling ALS.

Nellie was born in Amsterdam on March 10 th , 1943 to the late Stephen Kondrat, Jr. and Katherine (Siwik) Kondrat, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Galway Central School in 1961, and then attended Albany Business College the following year. She spent the next thirty years working for as a clerk for GE, Lockheed Martin, and Knolls Atomic Power Lab. Friends and family will remember her as being a constant caregiver: Nellie was always taking care of other people before herself. She also had a keen memory, and could tell you stories about family gatherings in the 1950's as vividly as if they happened yesterday. Nellie was also a bridesmaid or a maid of honor in 16 different weddings over the years, a Godmother, a sister, an aunt, and a trusted friend.

Nellie enjoyed going to the flat track races at Saratoga with friends, and later going to the Racino – but only to play the penny slots. She loved going out to dinner with friends so that more time could be spent visiting instead of cooking. She was a devout Catholic, and believed that she was surrounded by the angels of loved ones who had gone to heaven. She loved her family and friends deeply and unconditionally, and touched the hearts of absolutely everyone that she met.

In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her brother Robert Kondrat and her sister Linda McDonnell: Nellie, Bobby, and Linda all suffered from and succumbed to ALS.

Nellie is survived by two brothers: Richard (Amy) Kondrat of Broadalbin and Paul (Margaret) Kondrat of Amsterdam, 2 nieces, 3 nephews, 3 grand-nieces and 2 grand-nephews, and numerous cousins living both locally and abroad.
