Saratoga Springs - Nicholas J. Rossi, Sr., of Spring Street, died Sunday, August 17, 2008, surrounded by his family, peacefully uniting with his wife, Leona and daughter, Tricia. He was 85. He was born May 9, 1923 in Saratoga Springs and remained a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late Albert and Gertrude (Mangini) Rossi. He served in World War II from January 15, 1943- April 13, 1946. Nicholas was the proprietor of the former casino, Club Nicholas, on Saratoga Lake and Deweys Taxi. He was an owner of several standardbred horses and retired from Green Mountain Race Track. In addition to his parents, his wife Leona and his youngest child Tricia, Nicholas was also predeceased by his brother Albert. He is survived by his five children, Nicholas Jr., ( Holly), Michael (Martha), Robert, Cathy King (Kevin) and Timothy (Diane). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Niki, Stephen, Cory, Leigh, Riki Lee, Michael, Laura, Zac, Catherine, Riley, Jake and Maggie and one great grand daughter, Kate. Nicholas, affectionately known as Papa, will be remembered for his generosity towards his family, whom he loved unconditionally and his love of the simple things in life, especially relaxing in his favorite rocker on his porch, interacting with his grandchildren and enjoying a family dinner. There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
