Saratoga Springs, NY – Oscar L. Dufore, passed away Friday February 11, 2022 at Saratoga Hospital. He lived till the age of 92.

Born on July 23, 1929 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Rosa Sebesta Dufore. In his younger years he served in the National Guard, helped build homes and was a gate caller at the raceway. Around the age of 19, Oscar started working at the John Hay Whitney Estate. He lived and worked as the caretaker of the property for 55 years which consisted of taking care of the summer homes, several large gardens, the horse barns and track at Green Tree Stables and several different kind of farm animals.

After his retirement he enjoyed his home that he built, loving the times when his family members would come and help him with his 1000 word puzzles, word search books and the many hours they would spend together playing cards.

In addition to his parents, Oscar was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Allen Dufore; his brothers Charles Jr. and Frank and his sisters Josephine and Mary Dufore, all of Saratoga Springs.

He is survived by his sister Frances Dufore, who is 90; his children, Lucinda Cooper of Saratoga Springs, Charles Dufore and his wife Pam of Georgia and Kelly Johnson and her husband Eric of Middle Falls; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Saratoga Hospital that took care of him in his final days. We would also like to thank the Wilton Emergency Services.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7pm Monday February 14, 2022 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (518-584-5373). A funeral service will follow at 7pm.

Burial at the family plot in Maplewood Cemetery will take place in the spring.
