IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Anne
Mackey
November 3, 1929 – December 7, 2024
Saratoga Springs - Patricia Anne Mackey passed away on December 7, 2024, peacefully, sharing her favorite memories in the company of her loving daughter, Geriann.
Pat was born on November 3, 1929, at her childhood home on Granite Street in Saratoga Springs to Mary V. Matthews Farrell and Patrick J Farrell. She was the youngest of 8 children and claimed her childhood was the happiest time of her life. Her core memories were the sacrifices her kind, loving mother made, keeping their house snug and warm during the Depression years and those of her wonderful father who kept them fed well with a massive vegetable garden and their family run bakery near City Hall on Broadway.
Pat was a graduate of St. Peter's Academy in 1947. She especially enjoyed her time as a cheerleader, where she made lifelong friends who are still with us today; especially her dear friend, Jean Ernst.
Pat and Ed Mackey were married in 1949. They lovingly welcomed two beautiful daughters into this world, which she said was her greatest accomplishment. Their family spent many years and then summers at their camp on Saratoga Lake.
Pat proudly worked as an operator for the New York Telephone Company and quickly made her way up the ranks to Supervisor. One of her favorite stories to tell was having the opportunity to work in Lake Placid at the 1980 Winter Olympics! Even witnessing the Miracle on Ice. She also pursued a career in Real Estate in the 1970's that lasted 20 years, back when Saratoga was affordable. Pat obtained her license as an Agent and shortly after her Broker's license, passing her test on the 1st try; An inspiration to her daughters!
Pat retired in 1988 and delightfully became a snowbird, spending 35 winters in St Petersburg Fl. From there, she traveled all over seeing different areas of the world; some of her favorite spots were Ireland, Scotland, London, and Canada and Mexico with her daughter Geriann. She loved a good time and learning as much as possible from others.
Pat always had to stay busy, whether it was social clubs, golfing leagues, volunteering for Hospice, hosting Saratoga Day at Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack for over 10 years (a fun gathering of local Saratogians who gathered together yearly in Florida), helping with her grandchildren, or "working" for her daughter's event business…she loved a good party and was sure to talk about it for many years!
She spent her last years enjoying summer days on her breezeway, feeding the birds, car rides to Vermont and trips to the Racetrack with her good friend Bob. She treasured her visits from her devoted friend Daneille Eddy, who she said made the best treats and quiche, afternoon eggnog toasts with her faithful friend Mary Clark, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and spending quality time and laughter with her daughter, granddaughter, and great grandson. She especially loved to hear all about her beloved "Jacky Jack" and he couldn't wait to share with his Nini. "Being a great grandma to my Jack is a very important job."
Pat was predeceased by her husband Ed, her seven siblings: Matthew, Margaret, Jack, Josie, Kate, Gerry, and Edward, and her daughter Susan's husband, Talbot Denny. Pat is survived by her devoted daughters, Geriann Eddy and her husband Jerry, and Susan Denny; her loving grandchildren: Patrick Maynard, Erin Maynard, Ryan Eddy, and Rachel Russo and her husband Adam, and her cherished great grandson, Jack and great granddaughter Chloe. Her dedicated nephew, Patrick Farrell and his wife Gail.
