IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia A.
Mcveigh
September 24, 1944 – November 12, 2023
Saratoga Springs, NY - Patricia A. McVeigh, 79, passed away on November 12th, 2023 in Saratoga Springs, New York. She was born on September 24, 1944 in Buffalo, New York to the late John and Margaret Mary Murphy, and grew up in the village of LeRoy, New York.
Patricia graduated from Rosary Hill College in Buffalo with a degree in Elementary Education, then returned to LeRoy to begin her career as an elementary school teacher in nearby Alexander. She married James H. McVeigh in August 1968, embarking on a lifelong journey that would bring them to Schenectady, New York, where her son John was born in February 1970, and then to Saratoga Springs, where she gave birth to her second son, Scott, in July 1972. She would go on to dedicate many of the following years to raising her children before eventually deciding to return to her career in education.
Patricia loved being a teacher, and spent the next two decades nurturing young minds in Saratoga Springs, teaching various grades at St. Peter's, St. Clement's, and Dorothy Nolan Elementary. Over time it became nearly impossible to step out in Saratoga with her without running into someone whose life she had touched, be it a current or former student, one of their parents, a fellow teacher, someone she knew from church, or a friend she had made in the community, and she made many.
Patricia loved to travel, loved ice skating and gardening, reading and discussing books and playing Mahjong with her friends, Diet Coke, the Hallmark Channel, and British murder mysteries. She especially loved Christmas, and made sure to make it magical every year. And most of all she loved her family.
Patricia is survived by her husband James McVeigh; sons John and Scott McVeigh; daughter-in-law Deidre Dowling; brothers William and Michael Murphy; and sister Margie Murphy; as well as several nieces and nephews, in-laws, and dear friends. She is predeceased by her sister, Mary Jo Ellingham.
A gathering to celebrate Patricia's life will take place at the William J. Burke & Sons funeral home at 628 North Broadway in Saratoga Springs on Sunday, November 19th, from 3-6 pm.
A memorial service will be held at the historic Church of St. Peter at 241 Broadway on Monday, November 20th, at 11 am, followed by a burial at St. Peter's Cemetery.
