IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia A.
Ruggles
June 29, 1924 – March 31, 2017
Saratoga Springs, NY -Patricia (Pat) A. Ruggles, a life-long resident of Saratoga Springs, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 31, 2017. She was 92.
Born in Saratoga Springs on June 29, 1924, to the late Samuel Corey and Celia (Pemberton) Corey, Pat was one of the last surviving graduates of the Saratoga Springs High School class of 1942.
After the untimely passing of her father Sam, Pat's mother Celia remarried Fred Carroll, who would become her adoring stepfather. After high school, Pat went to work for Saratoga's G.F. Harvey Company and the local phone company. As a teenager, Pat indulged her independent spirit by earning her pilot's license. She loved nothing more than landing her seaplane on Round Lake and spoke passionately about her love of flying right until her final days.
Her life changed for eternity when she met William "Art" Ruggles. Married in 1947, Pat and Art raised six children, enjoyed taking long walks while holding hands, and played countless rounds of golf at McGregor Links Country Club, the scene of Pat's "legendary" hole-in-one on the eighteenth hole. Ever the sporting twosome, Pat managed to sneak her prized hole-in-one ball into Art's casket as an eternal reminder of their active lives together.
Pat was a devoted member of St. Clement's Parish and an active volunteer with the Ladies of Charity. She worked many years as a Library Assistant at Caroline Street School in Saratoga and spent her years after retirement visiting her ever-growing family, including a memorable trip to Cozumel, Mexico, in 1999 that included nearly two dozen family members.
Pat was predeceased by her beloved husband, Art, and is survived by her six children , Gerard Ruggles (Patsy), and their two sons, Dustin (Brittany) and Matthew (Sarah) of Loveland, Colorado; James Ruggles of Saratoga Springs; John Ruggles (Karen), and their two sons, Daniel (Kate) of Colchester, Vermont and Joseph of Boston; Kathleen (Ruggles) Orefice (Matthew), and their two children, Eden and John of Fairfield, Connecticut; Daniel Ruggles (Kristin), and their two sons, Scott and Samuel of Colonie; Joseph Ruggles, and his two daughters, Alexandria and Madelyn of Henderson, Nevada; and six great-grandchildren, Reece, Brayden, Jaxson, Taylor, Sadie and Eli. Pat was also predeceased by an infant son David and her brother Joseph S. Corey.
