Saratoga Springs, NY – Patsy Ann (Putnam) Tompkins, formerly of Vanderbilt Ave., died Monday (Dec. 28, 2020) at the Wesley Heath Care Center, following the onset of Covid and pneumonia. She was 87.
Born on Sept. 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Irma C. (Gorham) Putnam and a lifelong resident. She was class secretary and a 1951 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. She began employment in 1951 as a secretary with the former Leary and Fullerton law office, the Carroll, Amyot and Doring firm, returning to the Leary, Fullerton, Ford and Aussicker law practice and then Ford, Jones and Hogan. In 1972, Pat worked in Saratoga Springs City Hall as secretary to three former city mayors, the late Sarto J. Smaldone, Raymond Watkin and Ellsworth J. Jones, retiring in 1990.
In addition to her voracious interest in photography, Patsy enjoyed participating with many lifelong friends in bowling, golf, bocce, traveling, senior citizen bus trips and attending the Saratoga thoroughbred racing season and summer events. A lifelong member of the Church of St. Peter, she was a former board member of the Saratoga Springs Federal Credit Union, the old Firecracker Bowling league and the local ladies golf league.
Pat married Francis R. Tompkins on June 4, 1955 in St. Peter's Church. He died Sept. 16, 1992.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her step-father, John J. Winarski, who died on Mar. 30, 2017.
Survivors, in addition to several loyal friends, include two nieces, MaryLynn (John) Cimon of Kinderhook, Carol (Paul) Magrath of Melvin Village, NH; two nephews, Mark (Michele) Phillips of Saratoga Springs and her godson Michael (Maureen) Phillips of Gansevoort; several great and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Her family and friends are grateful to her former neighbors, the staff at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta and to the entire professional caregivers/employees at Wesley Health Care Center, including those dedicated in serving residents on 3 Springs. Your sincere kindness, professional demeanor and friendship in caring for Patsy was unsurpassed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, pastor at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway or Catholic Charities, 142 Regent St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
