Saratoga Springs, NY - Paul E. Mansfield, 79, passed away suddenly May 30, 2012 at Saratoga Hospital. He was born in Saratoga Springs, the younger son of Denis A. and Mary Louise Moyer Mansfield. He was a high school honors graduate, active in sports, student government, and recipient of the Yaddo Medal. He received a B.S. Degree from the University of Notre Dame, a M.S. from SUNY at Albany, and additional graduate hours from Plattsburgh and Siena College. After teaching one year in Schuylerville, he served three years in the Army Security Agency. After being honorably discharged, he taught two years in Glens Falls School District. He became a faculty member at the Junior-High School level in Saratoga. He taught mathematics and science, served as an administrative assistance, department head, and assistant principal until his retirement in 1992. Paul managed the Spa Pools for a decade, co-authored the first State Lifeguard Training Manual, and was Assistant Director of Water Safety for two years. For numerous years he worked occasionally at Saratoga Men's Shop. After retirement, he was employed part-time for fifteen years as Assistant Superintendent of Greenridge Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Barbara Hlavaty Mansfield; sons Patrick (Laura) Mansfield, Michael (Jacqueline) Mansfield, and Christopher Mansfield; granddaughters Melissa, Emily, Shannon, Kathryn and Maggie and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady's Chapel, St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in the family plot at Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Boston Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02210.
