Obituary

Paul Samuel Parobeck died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Monday, March 8, 2021 at his home in Saratoga Springs.

Born in 1940 in the snowbelt of Northwestern Pennsylvania, Paul was the son of the late Anna and Paul Parobeck.  He was raised on a farm before moving to Albion, Pennsylvania where his father worked for the Marx Toy Factory producing toy trains.  Paul was the first in his family to attend college and graduated from Thiel College with a degree in Chemistry.  Moving to Pittsburgh upon his graduation, he took a lifelong job with the Mine Safety and Health Administration, a division of the US Department of Labor.  He married the love of his life, Audrey Pfeiffer and moved to the North Hills of Pittsburgh.

Paul was a family man with a community spirt who volunteered for Berkeley Hills Lutheran Church, Boy Scouts Troop 181, Berkley Hills Civic Center, Northland Public Library and the Cranberry YMCA where he served on the Board of Directors and was instrumental in their multi-year multi-million dollar expansion.  Paul was always involved with the church and had a strong faith in God and a great love of classical, choral, and organ music.  He loved spending countless hours in his garden, creating outdoor oases not only in Pittsburgh but also at his Saratoga Springs home where he moved with Audrey to be closer to his children and grandchildren in 2012.

Paul kept very busy with his grandchildren while helping his sons with their interests and work.  His last few years were shaped by Alzheimers, and even as he struggled with the disease, he found both peace and joy. He especially loved taking long walks through the neighborhood with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Audrey; children Mark Parobeck (and wife Meg Parobeck) of Saratoga Springs, NY; Matthew Parobeck and Casey Dwyer of North Creek, NY; and Douglas (and wife Sharon Parobeck) of New York, NY.  His grandchildren, whom he loved most of all, include James, Henry, and Dean Parobeck.   These young and growing boys have been shaped by his strong work ethic, single mindedness, and boundless love.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Community Hospice of Saratoga (179 Lawrence St, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866) who took such loving care of Paul in the last month of his life, the ECOC (Ecumenical Center of Chatauqua) which Paul loved visiting each summer, or the Alzheimer's Association.
