Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY – Pauline Jean Thellin Dahlquist (10/22/1933), affectionately called Paulie by friends and loved ones, journeyed home to God on July 22, 2017 after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer's.  She was surrounded by the love of family at the time of her passing.

Paulie was deeply loved by her husband of fifty-two years, Arlen Dahlquist and her three children and their families: Erik Dahlquist and his wife Julie of Darien, Connecticut and their three children Emma, Shannon, and Ryan; Kathy Douville of Saratoga Springs, New York and her daughters Allie and Megan; and Krista Reville and her husband Christopher of Greenfield Center, New York and their children Luke and Lily.  Paulie holds a special place in her heart for her sister Dorrine McClelland, her husband Robert, and their three children Steve, Christy, Susan and families; her sister-in-law Phyllis Danenhauer and her three children Craig, Mark, Kari and their families; and her maternal cousin Barb Benson and her husband John and their children Derek, Josh, and Tracy.

Paulie is predeceased by her sister Jessie Lammers of Thousand Oaks, California and her parents Dorrine and Henry Thellin of both Clearwater, Florida and Crosby, Minnesota.

Paulie adored her family and friends and was always a most gracious and generous host and neighbor.  She is treasured for her kind spirit, her strong will, her natural athleticism, her compassion for others, her open-mindedness, her fabulous sense of humor, her love of classical music, and her sense of adventure.

From an early age, Paulie was a strong and independent woman.  After graduating from Macalester College and the University of Colorado School of Physical Therapy, she travelled Europe; skied the Rocky Mountains, dated and married Arlen, the love of her life; treated and inspired countless patients, training many of them for the Special Olympics.  Her big and noble heart led her to live a life filled with service to others, devotion to God, and dedication to family and friends.

In the final months of her life, she gave all those in her grand circle of friends and family the full expression of her love and gratitude.  She was profoundly thankful for the gift of friendships, old and new; the gentle care she received from Pat Genier, Betty Bedrey, Jen Wade, Karen Murdick, and her Hospice team; and the spiritual guidance given by pastors Heather Williams and Drew Sperry.  She gave and received great love, love that will live on and grow and multiply through each and every heart she touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association and/or The Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York 12866.
