Ballston Spa, NY – Peter H. Hammell passed away on the evening of January 13, 2023 at Saratoga Hospital.

Peter was born July 15, 1954 in Morristown, New Jersey and was the son of the late Herbert Jr. and Dorothy Overbeck Hammell. Peter was raised in North Jersey. He received his Master's degree in Early American Culture at The University of Delaware, in conjunction with Winterthur Museum. Peter started as an Associate Curator of Education and became the Director of Education at Winterthur Museum where he cofounded the Yuletide Tour, which is still the most popular tour for the Winterthur Museum. He also attended Franklin and Marshall College earning a Bachelor's degree in history and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Peter taught decorative arts, specializing in Shaker and 18 ^th Century Arts for the University of Pennsylvania continuing education program. While he was a director of The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, Peter, oversaw the development of numerous exhibits and a major renovation of the museum. He started the consulting and purchasing business Lafayette Associates for the sale of fine arts and antiques.

Peter is survived by his brothers; Thomas Hammell and his wife Patricia, Richard Hammell and his wife Lynne Ann Hewlett and a niece, Keke Hammell. and nephews Andrew Hammell and Michael Hammell.

A service is planned for Saturday February 4 ^th at 1:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 10 Glenmore Ave in Saratoga Springs.
