Saratoga Springs, NY - Philomena (Mamie) O'Malley formerly of Clinton St., passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Saratoga Hospital. She was 103. Born on June 27, 1907 she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Theresa (Mangina) Lanzara. Mamie was a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs and attended St. Peter's Academy(now Saratoga Spa Catholic). She was a self taught beautician who learned her trade by attending various beauty conventions and shows. Mamie had some memorable experiences with the elite, and not so elite, summer visitors during the 30s, 40s and 50s until she finally retired in the 70s. She was a very strong willed, hard working person who became successful through determination and perseverance. Mamie was born into a typically large Italian family of 3 sisters and 3 brothers and lived on Congress Street and later on Ballston Avenue. She had many interesting stories about growing up in Saratoga during this period. On June 4, 1928, she married William O'Malley, a marriage that lasted 77 wonderful years. Mr. O'Malley passed away in 2006. Mamie often relates the story as to how she was told that her marriage would never last because of the difference in their ethnic backgrounds. Survivors include her only son, Robert OMalley and his wife Judith of Buckingham, PA; three grandchildren, Lynn O. Walker and her husband Kevin of Buckingham, PA, J. Michael OMalley and his wife Kelee of King of Prussia, PA and David W. OMalley and his wife Laurie of Wilton, NY. In addition, Mamie is survived by her nine great-grandchildren, Nicole and Brandon of Buckingham, Pa, Haley, Quinn and Riley of King of Prussia, PA and Megan, Madison, Courtney and Aidan of Wilton. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373).
