Saratoga Springs, NY Richard J. Bendon of Eureka Ave., a life long resident, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008 at Saratoga Hospital with pancreatic cancer. He was 68. Born April 23, 1940 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late James and Hilda (Mechus) Bendon. Richard was extremely compassionate to those who were less fortunate. His quick wit and gift for gab brought a smile to peoples faces and with his outgoing personality every day was an adventure. Richard enjoyed hunting and especially spending time with his family. Richard worked for many years for the State Assembly in Albany. He also enjoyed his career supervising the Canfield Casino as well as Congress Park. In the 1960s, he owned the Ambassador Tavern on Broadway and has since owned Kings Tavern for 40 years. An avid racing fan, he enjoyed the days of going to the track to watch the horses and seeing all of his buddies. In addition to his parents Richard is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Mike Gibney. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia (Hays) Bendon; his daughter Misty Salaway (Mike Duggan) of Wilton; two sons, James Bendon and Korey Bendon (Trisha Sauntry) all of Saratoga Springs; his sister Kathleen Gibney of Waiani, HI and his three grandchildren, Cooper and Carson Salaway and Parker Bendon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Avenue with the Rev. Francis E. Sullivan, C.Ss.R. officiating. Burial will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. Memorials may be made in his name to St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or to St. Jude-Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
