IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Thomas
Hoag
August 5, 1947 – June 9, 2025
Saratoga Springs - Richard Thomas Hoag of Saratoga Springs NY and Inlet NY died at home in Saratoga Springs on June 9, 2025 with his loving wife Rosemary at his side. "Rich" was born in Albany, NY to the late Richard T. Hoag and Mary (Biagiotti) Hoag.
He grew up in Albany and was a New Scotland Avenue neighborhood guy. He attended St. Theresa of Avilla Grammer School and graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School. He graduated from The Junior College of Albany with a degree in Business Administration and also completed a degree in Computer Science at Hudson Valley Community College. Rich had lived all his life in Albany until he lovingly built the house in Saratoga. Rich's close late friend, Jeremiah Healy, designed the house and helped oversee its construction.
Rich was an associate computer programmer/analyst who worked for the New York State Department of Tax and Finance, he retired in 2006. In 2008 he went back to work and began working for the US. Government Small Business Administration Disaster Reserve as an IT Specialist. His work for the SBA was in and around Sacramento, CA.
Rich proudly served in the NYS National Guard- 727 TH Maintenance Company (Rear, DS) NYARNG during the Vietnam era.
He loved fishing, anywhere, but his camp on 6th lake in Inlet was his favorite location. When there, he would leave at dawn in his boat to fish 6th and 7th Lake; then back to camp where he cleaned and cooked the days catch. When living in Albany, Rich and his best bud, his German Shepherd Clifford, would go fishing at their favorite "secret fishing spots." He played in various dart, pool and tennis leagues and was a talented chess player.
Rich was a long-time horse-racing buff. As a teenager, Rich, and his close friend the late Tommy Conboy, would go to the racetrack, often for the morning workouts while diligently handicapping. More often than not, they had the winner.
Rich and Rosemary were intrepid travelers; going to Italy, throughout the Caribbean Islands, Cape Cod, camping, hiking and canoeing throughout the Adirondacks, enjoying Lake George on their houseboat moored in Silver Bay, going to Montreal for Christmas, Toronto, and always happy at their much-loved camp on Sixth Lake. Their travels included having incredible luck; during a huge numbing snow storm on the east coast they were "stuck" in Bermuda for 4 extra days. During an October ice storm that cut power and took trees down in Albany they were "stuck" in Martha's Vineyard having to extend their time there.
Rich supported Rosemary's love of Cinema. They were extras in Ironweed and Billy Bathgate thanks to Rich's photogenic face getting them in the door.
Rich was an enthusiastic cook; he spent hours perfecting types and amounts of flours to make perfect homemade pasta; he came up with his own recipes for smoking fish and thanksgiving turkeys and grilling at the lake.
Above all Rich was a loving, loyal, generous, supportive partner and protector to his Roe.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister Esther Kearns, nephew John Kearns, his father and mother-in-law, Paul and Mary Taglione, his brothers in law Richard Taglione and Paul Taglione, his nephew Dean Taglione and his best buddies, wonderful companions and much-loved German Shepherd Clifford and Jack Russell Terrier, Lily.
Rich is survived by his wife Rosemary Hoag, his brother John Hoag (Judi), his brother-in-law Jay Kearns, his nephews Timothy and Charles Kearns, and Robbie Hoag, and nieces Bridget K. Laroche, Heather Hoag and Tara (Paul) Evangelista and as well as great nieces and nephews.
