Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Richard L. "Dick" Leight, of Elizabeth Lane, passed away Saturday (Mar. 13, 2010) at Saratoga Hospital. He was 87. Born on July 22, 1922 in Curwensville, PA, Dick was the son of the late Frank A. and LaVina M. (Lundren) Leight. He was a US Coast Guard veteran of World War II, serving at the Cobb Island Lifeboat station, off of Cape Charles, VA. He attended Franklin Technical Institute and satisfactorily completed courses in Marine Electrical Wiring. Dick also served on the USCG Raritan in the European theatre. He was employed by the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A & P) for 34 years. He also worked as a mutual clerk at the Saratoga Harness Racetrack for many years, where he made many friends with coworkers and patrons. He had been employed for 10 years as a bus driver for the Saratoga Springs city school district until 1990. In younger years, he enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, bowling, and golf. He was a member of Gurtler Bros. Post 420 Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Clement's Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Norine Braim Leight, his son and daughter, Richard A. and Wendy Leight, and a granddaughter, Jacqueline LoCicero. Survivors include four grandchildren, Jamie (husband Carlton) Heyer, Jennifer Cook, William (wife Jodie) Leight and Eric Nisch; 2 great-grandchildren, Gavin Cook and Kaleb Heyer; two brother-in-laws, Robert Braim of Saratoga Springs and Gerald Braim; and his niece and nephew, Charles and Jill Braim of Ballston Spa. Dick was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His family and friends will greatly miss him, the stories he would tell, and his great sense of humor. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am Saturday (Mar. 20, 2010) in St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave. There are no public calling hours. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Lung Association of Northeast NY, 155 Washington Ave., Suite 210, Albany, NY 12210. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J.
