SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY--Richard "Dick" McConnell, 71, died on Thursday, Dec.1, 2016 after a brief illness.
Born in Dobbs Ferry, NY, Dick was the son of the late Violet and Harry McConnell. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) with the class of 1969. A resident of Saratoga Springs, NY, for nearly 41 years, he had various layovers in Brooklyn, NY, Key West, Florida, Spencertown, NY, and Brant Lake, NY.
Dick was a talented architect and artist and loved his adopted city of Saratoga Springs. Arriving in 1975, Dick partnered with friends and neighbors to lay the foundation of the preservation efforts that have made downtown Saratoga and the city such a beautiful and thriving area. You can see Dick's architectural work walking through town, in the Adirondacks, throughout New England, and many places in between. Dick was passionate about his interests, which included tennis and his constant, often awesomely weird, yet always personal art projects. He spent many decades surrounded by a loving and admiring community of friends and family.
Survivors include his son, Ian McConnell, and daughter, Brooke McConnell (Christopher Hemstead), as well as five grandchildren.
